Shortly before 3:53 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 I tried to catch the Venus Bus on the corner of Beck and Broadway in Tempe.
I waved at the driver and got his attention, but despite that the driver would not let me on the bus.
Probably because he was at the light & some drivers don't let you on at the light because it is against Tempe or Valley Metro's rules.
The driver was a Black man
So I ran across the street to the east/south corner of Beck & Broadway.
I had lots of time before the light changed and the bus made a left turn onto Broadway from Beck and headed east on Broadway.
I waved at the driver to stop and despite that he just drove right past me.
I was pretty p*ssed off and got out my camera and shot two photos of the bus as it was driving away.
From the photos it was bus number 1562.
I figured that I would have to wait another 15 minutes for the next bus to come, but it came rather quickly.
Oddly the bus number was 1561 or one number less then the 1562 number of the bus that refused to pick me up.
The next driver was a white fat driver.
I didn't write down the time he picked me up, but when we got to Roosevelt and 11th Street, it was 4:07 p.m.
From the second bus I got the number of Valley Metro which is
(602)253-5000and when I got to the Tempe Transit Center I called Valley Metro and complained to them. The call ended at shortly before 4:26 p.m.
The ticket number of the complain is
276739The guy I talked to on the call claimed his name was Tom, he said he was number 2052.
The call took 7:06 minutes to make.
I need to make a request for public record for the videos from both buses.
I also need to make a public records request for the audio and transcript of the call I made.
Last I should file a lawsuit in Federal Court suing Tempe and Valley Metro for civil rights violation. Probably 14th Amendment since the driver was a Black guy and he was discriminating against me, a White guy.
There are probably also a whole slew of Federal laws i can sue them over since a huge chunk of the bus money comes from Federal funds.
The photos of the bus were shot from the south side of Broadway from the bus stop on the east side of Beck which is also Industrial Way.
You can see the street signs for Hardy which is the next light to the east.
The bus number painted on the back is bus number 1562.
