Another phoney baloney bomb scare at a light rail station.
In almost all of these cases the cops end up blowing up somebody's unattended laundry or uneaten and forgotten lunch and then claim to be heroes who save us from terrorists. While they have inconvenienced us for several hours, as they did in this case. Don't worry, it's not about terrorists, it's about the police wasting our time and money proving they are f*cking heroes who need a pay raise. "The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." Package found at Phoenix light-rail platform deemed safe Nicole Praga and Courtney Mally, The Republic | azcentral.com 7:22 p.m. MST December 11, 2015 A central Phoenix intersection has reopened after being closed for more than two hours Friday afternoon as police investigated a suspicious package on a light-rail platform, authorities said. The package was found at Seventh Avenue and Camelback Road at about 3:30 p.m., and police had rendered it safe by 6 p.m. Sgt. Vince Lewis, a Phoenix police spokesman, said the package was intentionally left at the platform. Valley Metro, which operates the light rail, used buses to get light-rail riders from one active station to the other while Camelback Road was closed between Third and Seventh avenues. The riders were bused between the Central Avenue and Camelback station and the station at 19th Avenue and Camelback Road. Although the roadway had reopened by 6 p.m., Valley Metro said in a tweet that it could take some time to restore light-rail service. Susan Tierney, a Vally Metro spokeswoman, said suspicious packages appearing on light-rail platforms is unusual. A similar incident occurred Tuesday evening at the light-rail platform at Central Avenue and Van Buren Street. The station was shut down for two hours before Phoenix police determined the package wasn't a threat. Lewis said there didn't appear to be a connection between the incidents on Tuesday and Friday.
